Though alcoholism and alcohol abuse remain prevalent, diagnosis and treatment appear to be inadequate. Considering the rate of alcohol problems experienced throughout society and the growing number of social workers encountering individuals with alcohol problems, it is the obligation of the clinical community to gain a better understanding of the variables. In order for us to better prepare students to work effectively with alcohol abusing individuals (Straussner, 2004; Sullivan, 2004).
